General Information - - UK ATPL (take me back to runwaydata.org)

Located in the Commonwealth of Virginia (USA), the Dulles Technology Corridor is proximal to Washingon, DC. Here, runwaydata.net will provide the FAA 14 CFR Part 121 Airline Transport Pilot the education necessary for completing two comprehensive written examinations. I've had lawyer pilots as students & they equate it to the multi-state bar exam (MSBE) because the correct answer often turns on one single word.  Additionally, the British English and spelling are issues that US pilots seem to manage quite well.  Our Canadian colleagues have little or no difficulty because British English spelling and grammar structure are standardized for education in Canada.

But for prior JAA/EASA instructor experience [(2006-2008) Naples Air Center] in Florida, & crew experience in Europe; the weekend seminars (Air Law & HPL) are tailor made for the PIC/Captain/Aircraft Commander.  This means a pilot-in-command of a Lockheed C-130, Grumman F-14 Tomcat, Boeing B-52H, McDonnell Douglas KC-10 or the like may satisfy the "multi-crew cooperation" (MCC) concept.  If it is a crew aeroplane & MTOW > 66,000 lbs; this could be qualifying.

John R. Smith received the Master of Science in Aviation Safety (2004) & the graduate degree of Education Specialist (EdS) in 2006.  A firm believer in continuing education, he is currently on the engineering & applied science faculty of the University of the District of Columbia at the Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

In furtherance to these qualifications, the Human Performance & Limitations (HPL) course will be especially interesting because the spring 2009 semester at Georgetown University Medical School http://explore.georgetown.edu/news/?ID=40254&PageTemplateID=295 in Washington, DC offers a lecture series especially relevant to pilots contemplating a UK CAA First Class Medical Certificate. I am attending the "mini -medical school" on your behalf and will provide additional details to each runwaydata.net "Human Performance & Limitations" class. The Georgetown University mini-medical school awards a certificate upon completion of the course.  On Tuesday, 03 March 2009; Thomas Sherman, PhD presented issues with regard to obesity, type 2 diabetes & other ailments associated with weight gain. Dr.  Sherman's teaching style was friendly & persuasive. On 10 March 2009, I had the pleasure of attending a lecture by Milton Brown, MD, PhD with respect to epigenetic drugs (exciting discoveries). Since society expects pilots to be healthy & in maintenance of a good physiological status, I like to pass on information that I have acquired from the academic community.

We will have lively discussions during class & during scheduled breaks with respect to Georgetown University's "mini-medical school" which begins March 3rd & ends April 21st.  This "continuing education" event is the rationale for the runwaydata.net HPL weekend course being scheduled in early May.  The hours are 8am-5pm.  Keep in mind the first full calendar week that creates a calandar month bound between Tuesday through Friday is May the 5th through May the 8th.  You will test on one of these days in Orlando, Florida (or virtually anytime at CAA Headquarters at London Gatwick).

The weekend seminar exploring Air Law & ATC Procedures will reveal "Q-codes" & subtle communication differences like "line-up & wait." Since there are some 22 states within the European Community, it is generally standardized with the ICAO based in Montreal.  But for "exceptions," these will also be explored throughout the discourse.  You should plan to return to Orlando for your prescribed test day that will occur during the first full calandar week of the month within a calandar month bound. This means the testing week is never in possession of dates from the previous month.  A test week is always within the first full week of that particular calandar month. A Monday through Friday testing week is always bound within a calandar month.

Once you pass these two tests, you are a UK ATPL Licensed pilot which applies to "G" marked aircraft. This means the aircraft are registered in the United Kingdom.  The license becomes valid with passed writtens & an attached medical certificate and a valid type rating. The validation period is time sensitive to the extent it must be renewed periodically (new medical & simulator check, for example).  In Europe, the status of a pilot is like a doctor, lawyer, psychologist, accountant, engineer or the like. He or she is licensed like a professional. Each written test is valid for medical & type rating attachment for seven years.
